Shaun Guthmiller Joins Meristem Team as South Dakota Sales Representative
Experienced agronomist set to reach more farmers with “more bushels for less” in the Dakotas and surrounding states
23 November 2023, Yankton: Another leading agronomic professional has joined Meristem Crop Performance, one of the fastest-growing crop input suppliers in America. Shaun Guthmiller has become Meristem’s sales representative for South Dakota. Guthmiller has deep experience in helping growers boost their profitability with the right products and practices, especially in the Dakota and surrounding states.
“Here at Thanksgiving time, signing up Shaun Guthmiller to help us carry out our mission of greater productivity for farmers is another thing we’re thankful for,” says Mitch Eviston, Meristem founder and CEO. “I’m very happy we’ve added Shaun to our all-star team and eager to see him take farmers out there more bushels for less with our portfolio of high-quality products.”
Shaun Guthmiller grew up near Yankton, S.D., and started working for his grandfather on a farm in northern Nebraska when he was big enough to help. “I always liked the hard work and seeing the crops grow all season long,” he remembers.
During that time, he decided to make a career in agriculture and after graduating from Yankton High School, he enrolled at South Dakota State University (SDSU) where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agronomy and crop science. After SDSU, he learned the ropes of the crop input business at a large cooperative in northwest Iowa, and since then has been involved in the fertilizer business as a wholesaler and also worked for Aurora Cooperative. He comes to Meristem from Concept Agritech, where he’s gained more experience with biologicals and fluid fertilizer.
“I’m very excited to join Meristem, because they have a portfolio of products that are taking season-long plant nutrition to the next level,” he says. “Farmers out here (Dakotas) have larger farms and they want something simple that just works. And that’s what Meristem is bringing to the table.” Guthmiller bases this on what he has already experienced seeing Meristem products during the season just past.
“Their patented BIO-CAPSULE™ Technology is a great example,” Shaun explains. “Everybody seems to have bugs in jugs these days, but Meristem is the only company that has a proven way to keep them alive and vigorous all the way to the ground. I’ve seen results from REVLINE® HOPPER THROTTLE™, and I know it works.”
Guthmiller lives with his wife Miranda and two children Ella and Bingham in Yankton. He farms a portion of his grandfather’s original acreage in Nebraska and sees that as an added advantage he has in working with other farmers.
“I know firsthand what it’s like to chase higher yields and better ROI (return on investment),” he says. “I love growing crops. In life, there’s not many things you can gain the same satisfaction from in seeing it from start to finish. But planting a crop and growing it through to harvest in one of them. I’m fortunate to get to do that every year.”
