Uttar Pradesh: Sugar mills are operating at more than 84 per cent capacity

20 February 2024, New Delhi: Sugarcane crushing are in full swing in Uttar Pradesh, with sugar mills smoothly running the operations. According to the Sugar Department, Uttar Pradesh is witnessing an uninterrupted supply of sugarcane, exceeding 70 lakh quintals daily. The sugar mills are operating at more than 84% capacity for crushing activities. So far, over 6,585 lakh quintals of sugarcane have been purchased, marking an increase of 139 lakh quintals compared to the previous season during the same period.

The Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) released figures indicating that as of February 15, 2024, Uttar Pradesh has produced 67.77 lakh tonnes of sugar. Currently, 119 sugar mills are actively engaged in crushing operations.

Nationwide, sugar production has reached 223.68 lakh tonnes by February 15, 2024. This figure shows a slight decrease compared to the production of 229.37 229.37 tonnes  recorded on the same date last season.
