23 August 2022, New Delhi: A new concern is bothering the farmers of Punjab and Haryana. The farmers of paddy across both the states in India have raised a fresh concern regarding the stunted growth of crop. The scientific community is not sure of the cause.

A team of experts from Punjab Agricultural University are trying to diagnose the cause and are expected to submit the report this week.

Key areas where stunted paddy has been observed are Hoshiarpur, Fatehgarh, Pathankot, Patiala and Ludhiana districts. Ideally, the crop by this time is about 2 ft tall but it is still 9-10 inches long in patches. The most affected variety reported is Pusa 44, PR 121 and PR 113.
