Iowa Hunger Summit to Host Digital Listening Session on Hunger
30 July 2022, Iowa: The Iowa Hunger Summit will conduct an upcoming listening session where Iowans can share their thoughts, experiences and perspectives ahead of the upcoming White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.
The Iowa Hunger Summit will host an interactive session on August 2 at 12:00 p.m. CT. Registration is free; participants can sign up via Zoom Webinar. The interactive session will address policy solutions to end hunger, increase food security in the U.S. and prevent nutrition-based diseases. Participants are encouraged to share their personal stories and experiences of hunger, malnutrition, poverty, and diet-related diseases. Ideas and policies discussed will be brought to the White House Conference, which will take place in September 2022.
As a leading provider of much of the country’s food, Iowans’ contributions are critical to this conversation and the conference.
President Joe Biden announced the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health in May 2022, seeking to “accelerate progress and drive significant change to end hunger, improve nutrition and physical activity, reduce diet-related disease, and close the disparities around them.” The first White House Conference on Food, Nutrition, and Health occurred over 50 years ago, in 1969, and significantly affected food policy across the U.S.. The new conference, which has garnered bipartisan support, aims to do the same.
