Agriculture increasingly asserts its supporting role for the economy

16 January 2023, Vietnam: In 2022, the added value of the entire Agriculture and Rural Development (GDP) sector reached 3.36%, which is the highest increase in recent years; in which, agriculture increased by 2.88% (cultivation increased by 1.51%, livestock production increased by 5.93%); fisheries increased by 4.43%, forestry increased by 6.13%; forest coverage rate was over 42.02%; the percentage of communes meeting new rural standards was over 73%.

Export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery industry reached 53.22 billion USD, up 9.3% compared to 2021; trade surplus of over 8.5 billion USD, accounting for more than 75% of the total trade surplus value of the whole economy. Overall assessment, in 2022, the Agriculture and Rural Development sector was with high determination, great efforts, synchronous and flexible implementation, creative solutions and innovative thinking to overcome difficulties and challenges knowledge from abnormal situations of production and business practices in order to achieve development goals.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan shared the title of a recent article “When Agriculture has good news!”. The good news is that the export turnover of agriculture – forestry – fishery for the whole year reached over 53 billion USD – fulfilling the target assigned by the Prime Minister a year ago. The good news is that the trade surplus of agricultural products accounts for more than 75% of the total trade surplus value of the whole economy in 2022. Along with the pride in the above record numbers, are new, effective, and efficient models, digital, exciting information, associated with producers, farmers, when reducing production costs, improving incomes, thanks to the application of technology, digital transformation, rural economic development. The good news is reflected in the efforts to diversify markets, improve quality, and create brands of agricultural products as suggested by the Prime Minister. The good news is thanks to the companionship of central and local ministries and branches, who have joined hands to connect and promote agricultural products both at home and abroad. And the dynamic spirit, overcoming difficulties of businesses, industry associations, and the bright smiles of farmers across the country.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh acknowledged, appreciated and praised the efforts and achievements of the agriculture sector and localities and the determination to overcome difficulties and innovate of farmers and the business community, have made an important contribution to the overall socio-economic development achievements of the whole country in 2022.
