Millets draw Canada’s Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food to visit ICRISAT

16 June 2023, Canada: ICRISAT hosted a delegation from Canada, including the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Marie-Claude Bibeau, and Mr Cameron MacKay, the High Commissioner for Canada in India, on 15 June 2023.

The Honorable Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau began her tour of ICRISAT by planting a commemorative tree. The visit served as a platform for discussions on joint initiatives to enhance agricultural research and development.

High Commissioner Cameron MacKay highlighted the importance of international partnerships and collaborative efforts in addressing global food security, sustainable agriculture, and climate change challenges.

The dignitaries visited various research facilities at ICRISAT, such as the Genebank and the Center for Excellence in Genomics and Systems Biology. They commended ICRISAT’s ongoing efforts in developing innovative agricultural solutions and technologies that address the challenges faced by farmers in dryland regions.

“Upon arrival in India, I visited ICRISAT to learn about ways in which the cultivation of millet can contribute to global food security, sustainable agriculture, and the fight against climate change,” tweeted Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau.
