PAU Sets up agricultural information centre in village bihla

03 March 2021, Punjab, IN: The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has set up an Agricultural Information Centre in the village Bihla, block Pakhowal, district Ludhiana, with an objective of disseminating recommended agricultural information to the rural community. The centre has been established under the guidance of Directorate of Extension Education, PAU. The event was held in collaboration with the State Department of Agriculture. Various agricultural models along with PAU literature were displayed in this centre to familiarize rural community with various researches of PAU.

Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, highlighted the importance of scientific agriculture and called upon the farmers to diversify their cropping pattern. Referring to the processing of agriculture produce, he advised the progressive farmers to establish processing centre in the society.

In her welcome address, Dr Lakhwinder Kaur, Extension Scientist, discussed the importance of information centre in strengthening research extension linkages. She motivated the farm women to come forward and form self help groups to augment their income.

Addressing the farmers, Dr Dharminder Singh, Senior Extension Scientist, suggested adopting subsidiary occupations like beekeeping, mushroom cultivation, etc. He also explained water saving technologies, and the need for farmer-scientist linkages and farm literature for profitable agriculture.

Experts from the Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, PAU shared information about various courses and training programmes organized for the benefit of farm women and advised the women to utilize spare time in profit making enterprises.

Mr. Parkash Singh, Agriculture Officer, apprised the farmers of different schemes being provided by the department and urged them to go for the cultivation of recommended varieties of various crops.

Village Sarpanch Smt Kulwinder Kaur appreciated the efforts made by PAU.
