PAU organizes two online expert lectures to celebrate national science day
01 March 2021, Punjab, IN: The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources and the Department of Soil Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized two online expert lectures to highlight the importance of science and technology in natural resource management. A total of 85 scientists and students attended the lectures, organized as a part of National Science Day celebrations under NAHEP-CAAST project.
Dr SK Chauhan, Professor and Head, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, highlighted the importance of celebrating National Science Day, which started in 1987 and is celebrated every year to raise awareness regarding the importance of science in daily life. This year’s theme is “Future of STI: Impact on Education, Skills and Work,” he informed.
Dr Anil Sood, Head, Agriculture Crop Management, Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, shed light on the importance of geospatial technologies in forest management.
Dr Guddappa Devagiri, Professor and Head, Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, College of Forestry, Ponnampet, Karnataka made presentation on ecosystem services of on-farm plantations. He threw light on the importance of plantations not only in meeting timber requirements for domestic and industries but conservation of traditional forests as well. Both the expert speakers interacted with the participants and addressed their queries.
