PAU organizes awareness camp on good agricultural practices
23 September 2021, Punjab: An Awareness Camp cum Workshop on ‘Safe and Judicious use of Pesticides and Adoption of Good Agricultural Practices for the Production of Basmati Rice’ was organized by PAU’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Pathankot (Gho) on September 21. The event was sponsored by BEDF (Basmati Export Development Foundation) – APEDA. The Deputy Director of KVK, Pathankot, Dr. Narendra Deep Singh in collaboration with Dr.Ritesh from APEDA coordinated the event and highlighted the required standards for Basmati export.
Dr.Hartaranpal Singh Saini, Chief Agriculture Officer, Pathankot, and his team delivered a lecture on the services provided by state agriculture department to the farmers. A team of experts from PAU, including Dr.Amarjeet (Plant pathologist), Dr.K.S. Suri (Entomologist), Dr.Rajwinder (Zoologist), Dr.Simarjeet (Agronomist), delivered detailed lectures on good agricultural practices of basmati and prevention of rodent attack. The experts suggested timely and judicious use of recommended pesticides. Dr.Puneet Sharma and Dr. Seema delivered lectures on agricultural mechanization and soil health respectively. Exhibition stalls related to agriculture, animal husbandry, publications and home science were set up for the more than 200 farmers who attended the programme. Registration kits including agriculture literature were also provided to the farmers.
