PAU celebrated “azadi ka amrit mahautsav” week; farmers awareness programme on climate services and pau practices
22 October 2021, Punjab: The communication Centre of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in and Department of Extension Education in collaboration of India Meteorological Department organized an awareness camp at village Jodhan, block Pakhowal , District Ludhiana in which about 40 farmers participated.
In her welcome remarks Dr Kulwinder Kaur Gill, Principal Agrometeorologist indulged the farmers about the weather & climate practices being provided by PAU to the farming community. She also explained about the weather agro-advisory services and the different mobile Apps launched by IMD to get weather alerts on their phones. In addition to this, she also aware the farmers about Digital Newspaper ‘ Kheti Sandesh” , SMS alert and PAU literature. She stressed upon farmers not to burn paddy straw and conserve the environment.
Dr Simarjit Kaur apprised the farmers about the latest cultivation techniques of wheat crop acquainted the farmers to spray herbicides in right way for attaining good results. She advised the farmers to use recommended herbicides. She also advised to adopt different technologies developed by PAU for crop residue management.
Dr Dharminder Singh exhorted the participants to curb the practices of crop residue burning and highlighted harmful effects of crop residue burning. He also advised them to grow recommended wheat varieties. He also briefed about newly developed wheat varieties such as PBW 766, PBW 824, PBW 803, PBW 1 Chapati etc.
Dr Lakhwinder Kaur while proposing a vote of thanks advised the farmers to read PAU Literature to reap benefits .
On this occasion, winter vegetable seed kits, PAU package of practices for rabi crops and wheat consortium cultures were also provided to the farmers.
