KVK, Sangrur Conducts Vocational Training Course On Mushroom Cultivation And Processing
25 December, 2020, Punjab, IN: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) conducted a five-day vocational training programme on ”Mushroom Cultivation and Processing” from December 17-25, 2020 under the guidance of Dr Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training). As many as 20 trainees participated in the course.

While welcoming the trainees, Dr Mandeep Singh shared economics and importance of mushroom cultivation and formation of FPO of mushroom growers.
Dr Ravinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) and Coordinator of the training programme, deliberated on nutritional and medicinal use of mushrooms in diet. She discussed different types of mushrooms and their proper care and management during cultivation. She also demonstrated different steps of mushroom cultivation like composting, spawning and casing. Compost methodology and crop management practices were also discussed during the exposure visit to the village Bhutal Khurd.
Dr Shivani Sharma, Assistant Professor (Mycologist, Mushroom), delivered an online lecture on disease and insect management in mushroom cultivation.
Dr Sukhpreet Kaur, Food Technologist, shared post harvest management practices as well as processing techniques for long-term preservation of mushrooms.
The progressive mushroom growers Sardar Jaspal Singh and Sardar Gulab Singh shared their practical experiences with the trainees. Literature on mushroom cultivation and spawn for dhingri mushroom cultivation were also distributed among the trainees.
