KVK, Ropar Holds Scientific Advisory Committee Meeting
11 December 2020, Punjab, IN: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar organized its annual Scientific Advisory Committee meeting on December 10, 2020. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr DS Bhatti, Additional Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana. Dr AS Dhatt, Additional Director of Research (Horticulture and Food Science), PAU, co-chaired the meeting and Dr Manmohanjit Singh, Director of Research Station, Ballowal Saunkhri was the special invitee. Scientists from KVK Langroya, officers from allied departments, progressive farmers and farm women attended the meeting.

Chairing the meet, Dr Bhatti stressed upon the need to promote resource conservation technologies, integrated farming systems and processing of agricultural produce for better economic gains to the farmers. He emphasized the need to further strengthen efforts for managing crop residues in collaboration with all stakeholders.
Dr Dhatt stressed to lay focus on nutrition gardening, vegetables nursery production, fruits and other products like honey and jaggery so that farmers income and consumers health, both may make headway together. He suggested KVK to facilitate farmers/ farm women in marketing of their products.
Dr Manmohanjit Singh highlighted the importance and scope of agro forestry in this region and suggested for collaborative trainings of KVK, Ropar and RRS, Ballowal Saunkhri for better impact.
Dr GS Makkar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK, Ropar welcomed the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee.
Dr Aparna, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), presented the annual progress report of KVK followed by discussion of next year’s action plan of various training programmes, on-farm trials, demonstrations and different extension activities. The SAC members gave their valuable suggestions in light of current issues like water and resource conservation, CRM, training needs of rural youth and farmers, etc.
Later, a visit of dignitaries was organized to the technology park, seed production plots and demonstration units at KVK farm.
