Grow Turmeric For Domestic Consumption: PAU Urges Farmers

6 January 2021, Punjab, IN: The School of Organic Farming, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a field day on “Production and Processing of Turmeric” at the field of Sardar Randhir Singh Bhullar, village Salana, district Fatehgarh Sahib. About 30 farmers participated in the programme, sponsored by the Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, Calicut, Kerala.

Dr Rajender Kumar, Senior Agronomist and Principal Investigator of the programme, explained cultivation of turmeric. Highlighting the health benefits of turmeric, he advised the farmers to grow turmeric for domestic consumption.

Dr Tarsem Chand Mittal, Senior Extension Engineer, shared techniques for the processing of turmeric.

Dr Vipan Kumar Rampal, Deputy Director, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib, informed the participants about the scope of turmeric in district Fatehgarh Sahib.

Dr Vinay Sindhu, Agronomist, delved upon organic certification of turmeric for higher benefits. On the occasion, the turmeric seed (rhizomes) was distributed among the farmers to encourage them to adopt its cultivation.
