Farmers of Rupnagar to get compensation soon for damaged maize crop: Punjab

17 November 2021, Chandigarh: The farmers of District Rupnagar would soon be compensated for damage caused to the maize crops during Kharif season-2021 due to ‘Fall Armyworm’.

Disclosing this here today, Deputy Commissioner Sonali Giri said that the report of damaged crops has been sent to Special Chief Secretary cum Financial Commissioner Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Department. She further added that keeping in view the interests of farmers, special girdawri has been conducted in respect of District Rupnagar. The DC also said that the damaged crops have been found in villages of Tehsil Sri Chamkaur Sahib, Rupnagar, Sri Anandpur Sahib, and Sub Tehsil Nurpur Bedi.

Divulging more, the Deputy Commissioner said that the crops of 101 villages have been damaged and letter for extending assistance worth Rs. 3,42, 40, 597 has been dispatched to the State Government.

The Deputy Commissioner also mentioned that the District Administration is always fully committed to safeguard the interests of the farmers in accordance with the directions of the State Government. The DC further added that the demanded compensation amount is likely to be received soon. The amount after receiving would be credited into the Aadhar linked bank accounts of the affected farmers.
