Farmers informed about food industry and flower cultivation during PAU live programme

10 February 2021, Punjab ,IN: The farmers were informed about the Food Industry Business Incubation Centre during the PAU Live Programme today. Dr Poonam A Sachdev, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology, said the Centre has been established with the technical guidance of the Ohio State University, USA. It aims at providing incubational facilities to the food industry, young entrepreneurs and farmers, and developing linkages among them for the development of food processing industry. It also offers short courses and trainings for the development of entrepreneurial skills among youth, farm women, budding entrepreneurs, NGOs and self-help groups, she added. It also conducts research and upscales technologies for processing and value addition of agri-produce as desired by organizations and stakeholders, she informed.

Dr Ranjit Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, explained the cultivation of marigold with emphasis on its recommended varieties and suitable climatic conditions. He also threw light on the recommended varieties of other flower crops.

Dr Inderpreet Kaur, Assistant Entomologist, and Mr Ravinder Bhalooria from Skill Development Centre shared the details of the farm operations to be followed during the next fortnight.
