Farmers Get Training In Seed Production Of Field And Vegetable Crops

25 February 2021, Punjab, IN: The Office of Director (Seeds), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), conducted one-day training programme on “Seed Production of Field and Vegetable Crops” at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nurmahal. As many as 25 farmers attended the training programme.

Dr Rajinder Singh, Associate Director (Seeds), who was the chief guest, apprised the farmers of the use of certified seed to improve the yield. Presenting seed production scenario in Punjab, he stressed upon the farmers to produce quality seed of improved varieties for their own requirement.

Dr Gaurav Khosla, Plant Breeder, imparted knowledge on seed production of field crops while Dr Balvir Kaur, Assistant Professor (Horticulture), shared useful tips for quality seed production of vegetable crops for kitchen garden and commercial production.

Dr TP Singh, Senior Plant Breeder, emphasized upon safe storage of seed to maintain its quality.

Dr Ritu Raj, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), elaborated control measures for various insect-pests and diseases in field and vegetable crops.

Dr Arpandeep Kaur, Assistant Professor (Soil Science), gave tips on agronomic practices for successful cultivation of seed crops.

A visit to the farm was also conducted to give first hand information to the participants on improved seed production techniques being followed. The participants were also informed about grading methods to be followed for the cleaning of seed. The farmers were highly benefited from the training programme and were willing to take seed production for their requirements.
