What is seed treatment ?
Seed Treatment is the treatment of seeds with fungicides or insecticides. It helps to make seeds disinfect with seed borne pathogens and help fight against soil borne pathogens. The pathogens if remain untreated will reduce the yield by causing various infestations or diseases. Seed treatment also helps in improving germination rate.
When is the best time to do seed treatment ?
It is important to treat the seed before sowing. The right time to do the seed treatment is before 24 hours of sowing seeds. This will provide maximum protection to the seeds and protect seeds from any soil borne or seed borne infestation.
How to do Seed treatment ?
In recent times, most of the private companies treat their seeds with necessary seed treatment chemicals before selling them in the market. Even though the seeds are treated by private companies, it is suggested to do the treatment again so that any remaining infestation which may come later can be avoided.
You can use Carbendezim or Thiram @ 2g/kg of seed or with talc formulation of Trichoderma viride @ 4 g/kg seed (or) Pseudomonas fluorescens @ 10 g/kg seed.
You can also coat the seeds with ZnSO4 @ 300 mg/kg using 10% maida solution as adhesive (250 ml/ kg).
There are various products available in the market with premix of chemicals / bio solutions which can be directly used.
