SY INSITOR: Exceptional 2024 Performance in the North

25 September 2024, UK: As the wheat harvest is all but complete, it is fair to say that the 2024 season will go down in history as a challenge. Persistent wet weather, huge disease pressure, in particular Septoria tritici and higher brown rust than is often seen in the North, finished off with a stop start harvest in many areas. The season as a whole has tested variety resilience and SY INSITOR has really stood up to the test in the Northern AHDB Recommended List trials.

The headlines:

  • The 2024 yield average is currently below the 5-year mean, which reflects the challenging season
  • SY INSITOR is currently averaging 108% putting it fourth on the current AHDB Recommended List
  • SY INSITOR has had an exceptional performance, particularly in the more Northern sites of England and into Scotland:
    • Croft-on-Tees, North Yorks: 116%
    • Haswell, County Durham: 117%
    • Huggate, East Yorkshire: 113%
    • Balgonie, Fife: 114%
    • St Boswells, Scottish Borders: 115%

Seeds Technical Manager Matt Bull praises SY INSITOR’s overall profile and said “SY INSITOR has consistently delivered and has been one of the top performers in Recommended List trials for several seasons, especially in the North. 2024 is no exception and the results from the Northern sites are great to see, with several sites coming in at over 110% relative”

“We regularly see exceptional performance from SY INSITOR in the North, especially on sites with slightly lighter soils. We know that the variety has aggressive rooting and puts roots down to depth quickly, which helps set the platform for high performance whatever the season throws at it. Having inherently high specific weight also helps maintain that performance and helps it compensate in more marginal situations”

Seeds Marketing Manager Kathryn Hamlen is pleased with the continued demand for SY INSITOR on farm. “We are seeing a real appreciation for the consistent high performance of SY INSITOR, especially in the North. The numbers speak for themselves. This variety is the highest yielding variety on light land and that shows its ability to perform in more challenging scenarios.”
