New seed treatment improves forage cabbage yields

11 May 2023, Sweden: Pelleting of seeds is increasing the yield in swedes. A technological improvement we are happy to see!

Our most recent seed treatment for agriculture is pelleted swede seed, which is a forage brassica used for winter forage. Pelleted swedes have revolutionized the sowing of this crop in New Zealand, where conventional planting has gradually shifted to precision planting in popularity.

This change has been driven by contractors using pelletised fodder beet seed from Europe and seeking a similar New Zealand product. Initially, the swede seed is treated with Ultrastrike®, which protect against insects and fungal diseases, and then processed into pellets.

The new coating has resulted in improved yield responses with overall better plant volumes and bigger and more uniform bulbs.
