High-Yielding Bread Wheat Variety MP (JW) 1358 for Peninsular India
03 February 2025, New Delhi: MP (JW) 1358 is a bread wheat variety developed for timely sown, restricted irrigation conditions in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, and Tamil Nadu. It is known for its heat and drought tolerance, making it suitable for regions with limited water availability.
Developed by JNKVV, ZARS, Powarkheda, this variety was notified under 8(E) on 24.12.2021. It has an average yield of 30.9 q/ha and a potential yield of 43.6 q/ha, ensuring stable production even under climate stress.
Special Features of MP (JW) 1358:
– Heat stress tolerance (HSI=0.78) and drought stress tolerance (0.90), ensuring better adaptability.
– Resistant to leaf and stem rust, reducing disease-related yield losses.
– High protein content (12.1%) for better nutritional value.
– Rich in iron (40.6 ppm), making it suitable for nutrient-rich wheat production.
