GRAHAM: Another Cracking Year for This Old Favourite, With Exceptional Performance on Western Sites

25 September 2024, UK: As the wheat harvest is all but complete, it is fair to say that the 2024 season will go down in history as a challenge. Persistent wet weather, huge disease pressure, in particular Septoria tritici and brown rust and a stop start harvest in many areas. The season as a whole has tested variety resilience and GRAHAM has really stood up to the test.

The headlines:

  • The 2024 yield average is currently below the 5-year mean, which reflects the challenging season
  • GRAHAM has yielded a whopping 107.1% of the controls, based on current AHDB harvest results (23/09)
  • GRAHAM has had an exceptional performance at Western sites:
    • West Charlton: 109%
    • Wimborne, Dorset: 116%
    • St Mabyn, Cornwall: 108%
    • Frisby, Leicestershire: 105%
    • Broughton, Hants: 112%

Seeds Technical Manager, Matt Bull praises GRAHAM’s overall profile and said “we predicted this was going to be a great year for GRAHAM. As we came through spring we could see the benefits of high tillering capacity in combination with good disease resistance. The inherently early maturity that GRAHAM has was also likely to favour it to get a strong finish at the end of a tricky season”

“We have seen strong performance from GRAHAM across the board, but a particular mention needs to go to its western yields. GRAHAM is outperforming the current most popular variety in the market by 5.5% based on the available data. I truly believe that GRAHAM should be a strong consideration on farm this autumn.”

The AHDB Recommended List trials speak for themselves and Seeds Marketing Manager Kathryn Hamlen expects GRAHAM to maintain popularity on farm. “GRAHAM has been delivering on farm for many years now and people know how to get the best out of it. This year has really shown that when push comes to shove, having a resilient variety like GRAHAM is of huge value on farm”

Syngenta are running a special offer on their loyalty program “Partnership Plan” with an extra 1500 points available for every tonne of C2 purchased for this autumn. For more information, please click here.
