Indian cricketer Ajinkya Rahane announces 1 crore seed fund for Agri-tech Startups

11 November 2022, New Delhi: Indian Agriculture is increasingly attracting attention with the immense opportunity it holds. Recently, cricketer Ajinkya Rahane announced a One crore seed fund for agri-tech startups. His vision is to provide benefits directly to the farmers through his initiative ‘Ajinkya Rahane and Associates’.

A committee at the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Agriculture (MCCIA) will help in shortlisting the startups as they hold expertise from legal, tech, agriculture, and allied segments of agriculture. The first investment is scheduled to be made in December 2022 followed by three more investments till March 2023.

Rahane said, “Farmers are our heroes and I always wanted to contribute towards their financial empowerment. I have made some investments before this fund; however, I was looking for an institutionalized and structured form of funding for agri-tech start-ups. Even though the funding will be in form of equity, I am not looking at monetary returns but want more in terms of a higher direct monetary positive impact on farmers.”
