World Bee Day: FMC Empowering Rural Women through Beekeeping Initiatives
19 May 2024, New Delhi: Bees hold profound significance in our ecosystem and are a necessity for the survival of agriculture and biodiversity worldwide. Bees not only enhance our crop yields but also ensure food security, Multiple crops, including almond, apple, blueberry, and sunflower, rely entirely on honey bee pollination for optimal yield.
In India and the northern regions, where these crops are both highly consumed and extensively cultivated, the indispensability of bees in the production cycle stands as an indisputable fact. The role of youth and women is inevitable in upholding the practice of beekeeping and preserving its legacy for generations to come. It is crucial to impart the skill of beekeeping to the younger generation and rural women, as they hold the key to perpetuating this essential practice.
