Workshop On Value Chain In Pineapple Leaf Fibre Organized In Meghalaya
25 November 2024, Kolkata: A workshop on value chain & supply chain management of pineapple leaf fibre was organized at Marnger village of Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya under the NEH scheme of ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata, in collaboration with ICAR-North-East Hill Region, Barapani. During the workshop, a pineapple leaf fibre extractor, designed and developed by ICAR-NINFET Kolkata, was provided to the village, where farmers cultivate pineapple on a large scale.
Dr Laxmikanta Nayak, Head, Transfer of Technology Division, ICAR-NINFET, spoke about the potential of pineapple leaf for extraction of high-value fibre. He also highlighted the scope of diversified value-added products from pineapple leaf fibre.
Around 50 progressive farmers associated with pineapple cultivation and processing participated in the event.
