Workshop On Development Of Catchment Resilience Index For Resilient Basin Development
28 November 2024, Hyderabad: A 2-day regional consultation workshop on the development of the catchment resilience index for resilient basin development was organized jointly by the International Water Management Institute and ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture Hyderabad from 26th–27th November 2024.
Dr Mukesh Kumar Sinha, Chairman, Godavari River Management Board, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He extended his cooperation in developing the CRI index and stressed that it would be very useful for the Godavari basin management.
Dr S.K. Bal, Director, I/C, ICAR-CRIDA, briefed about the achievements and ongoing activities of the institute.
Dr Alok Sikka, IWMI Representative for India and Bangladesh, spoke about the purpose of the workshop and the need for the development of the integrated Catchment Resilience Index (CRI) considering flood, drought, and water scarcity along with the risk and resilience parameters.
The development of the Catchment Resilience Index (CRI) is a key component of a broader initiative backed by ICAR, along with its centers ICAR-CRIDA and ICAR-IIWM, aimed at enhancing agricultural resilience through disaster risk management strategies in India. This initiative is being implemented by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI).
The project aims to develop an innovative co-design and co-implement process with diverse stakeholders on the importance of CRI for catchment planning and rehabilitation to guide integrated climate risk management.
A total of 42 participants from different institutions participated in the programme.
