Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to Launch Foot March in Vidisha from May 25

23 May 2025, New Delhi: Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, is set to begin a historic foot march (padyatra) from May 25 across his parliamentary constituency, Vidisha. The initiative aims to take Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant and developed India to the grassroots and ensure that the benefits of central government schemes reach the widest possible audience.

In what is being described as a significant public outreach campaign, the foot march will initially cover all assembly segments within the Vidisha constituency. It will later be expanded to other parliamentary constituencies across the country.

As part of this initiative, Shri Chouhan will dedicate two days each week to the padyatra, walking up to 25 kilometers per day. During the journey, he will engage with villagers from all sections of society to spread awareness about government schemes, resolve issues, and ensure benefits are delivered effectively.

Direct Outreach to Beneficiaries

The padyatra will see Shri Chouhan interacting directly with beneficiaries of key schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, women empowerment initiatives, rural road and health programs, education, sanitation, Digital India, and self-employment programs. He will assess the on-ground implementation of these schemes and guide officials to address any gaps.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is marching towards self-reliance and holistic development. The purpose of this padyatra is to ensure that the benefits of central government schemes reach every farmer, every village, and every woman,” Shri Chouhan said, emphasizing that no effort will be spared in achieving this goal.

Promoting Rural and Agricultural Development

The foot march will highlight the government’s commitment to rural development, agricultural reforms, women’s empowerment, job creation, and social welfare. Local representatives, officials from the agriculture and rural development ministries, self-help groups, women’s groups, and farmer organizations will participate in the journey to promote inclusive governance and ensure community participation.

Through the padyatra, the government also aims to reinforce the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) mission by supporting rural industries, promoting local products, boosting women entrepreneurship, and enhancing youth employment opportunities through skill development and self-employment programs.

Expansion Beyond Vidisha

After Vidisha, similar padyatras will be organized in other parliamentary constituencies across the country to replicate the model of direct engagement and development at the grassroots level. The initiative is expected to play a crucial role in poverty alleviation and enhancing access to housing, education, healthcare, sanitation, and employment.

As the campaign unfolds, it will serve as both a feedback mechanism and a catalyst for implementing welfare schemes more effectively, while building stronger connections between government and citizens in rural India.
