Union Minister of State, Ministry for Education and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region visits ICAR-Rathindra KVK, Birbhum

20 June 2024, New Delhi: Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Development of North Eastern Region, visited the ICAR-Rathindra-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Birbhum on the occasion of the release of the 17th Instalment of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, PM-KISAN by the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, today.

Dr. Majumdar spoke about the initiatives taken by the Govt of India, uplifting the farming community and championed the farmers’ role in advocating for local produce, with visions of surplus bounty reaching distant markets. He honoured 10 progressive farmers and farm women, celebrating their dedication and innovation and encouraged the farmers to take advantage of PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi. The Minister also planted a Bakul tree in ICAR-RKVK premises. He also explored various activities of ICAR-RKVK such as beekeeping, vermicomposting, animal rearing, fisheries, millets, and natural farming, and offered advice on crop diversification.

Prof. Arabinda Monda, Vice-Chancellor (Acting), Visva-Bharati delivered the welcome address.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, highlighted the recent achievements of ICAR-KVKs in Zone-V and its transformation to serve as a change catalyst and convergence hub for Indian agriculture during Amrit Kaal, aiming to achieve national aspirations by 2047.
