Union Agriculture Minister visits ICAR-NRC on Mithun and Farm in Nagaland

27 June 2022, New Delhi: Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare was on his visit to the ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Nagaland and the Pineapple Farmland here today. The Union Minister said that it is everyone’s responsibility to conserve the Mithun being one of the unique bio-resources of North-East India. He also urged the farmers to adopt the semi-intensive system for Mithun Rearing developed by the Centre. The need for more comprehensive research on Mithun for the farmers’ benefits was stressed by him.

Mr. Tomar urged the Centre for conducting the research to find out the nutritional and therapeutic properties of Mithun’s Milk and develop a business model. He accentuated on the need for ascertaining the fertilizer capacity of Mithun’s dung and urine to adopt the natural farming. Mr. Tomar also discussed the various technologies developed by the Centre like Feed Blocks, Mineral Block Dispensers and Region-specific Mineral Mixtures. During the visit to Volvam Village and Pineapple Farm, the Union Minister interacted with the Farmers’ Producers’ Organization’s Members.

Kaito Aye, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland; Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Horticulture Commissioner, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare; Mr. Mathung Yanthan, Adviser on Horticulture and Border Affairs of Nagaland; Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor, Central Agricultural University and Dr. V.K. Mishra, Director, ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam along with the Senior Officials of ICAR Institutes, Scientists & Farmers were also present during the occasion.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. M.H. Khan, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun highlighted the various achievements made by the Centre in the last 33 Years.
