Trucks Stuck at Border as West Bengal Halts Potato Exports to Control Prices
04 December 2024, New Delhi: The West Bengal government has implemented a ban on potato exports to address rising prices, resulting in numerous trucks stranded at the Odisha-West Bengal border. These vehicles, carrying large quantities of potatoes, are currently stationary near Belda in West Bengal. Local authorities have increased monitoring efforts, with law enforcement stationed to oversee the situation.
The ban, announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is part of broader efforts to stabilize the prices of essential commodities like potatoes and onions within the state. Enforcement has been ramped up in the West Medinipur district, where inspections of outgoing trucks are ongoing. The move aims to alleviate financial pressure on consumers by ensuring adequate local supply, as earlier measures failed to curb the escalating costs effectively
