Success Story of CFLD on Oilseed (2024-25)

13 September 2024, Firozabad: Mr. Vijendra Singh completed his high school education at T.B.B Singh Inter College in Tundla, Firozabad in 1972. Subsequently, he dedicated himself to farming and established a small dairy operation on his 3.5-acre property to support his family. During the Rabi season, he primarily cultivates wheat and mustard, while in the Kharif season, he grows urad and bajra crops.

Mr. Singh received the First Prize at the district level for his urad crop and the First Prize at the state level for his bajra production. To earn a living, he sells graded seeds of high-yielding varieties and distributes free seeds to needy farmers in villages such as Baghai, Dheerpura, Chatrai, and Mohammadabad to promote the adoption of these varieties.

The Oilseed Farmer and a group of local farmers approached ICAR-KVK Firozabad, expressing their interest in utilizing the area for crop production. ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Firozabad, demonstrated the high yielding Mustard variety DRMR 1165-40 during Rabi 2023-24 under CFLD on Oilseed. Subsequently, a team of scientists from ICAR-KVK Firozabad visited the area, conducted discussions with the farmers, and carried out a survey. Based on their findings, ICAR-KVK organized a training program for the farmers. Following this, they provided seeds of the high-yielding mustard variety DRMR 1165-40 along with other essential inputs for demonstration purposes. The crop was sown in the second week of September 2023 and harvested in the last week of April 2024. The farmers achieved a commendable yield of 26.4 quintals per hectare and realized a substantial net income of Rs. 107,940 per hectare.

Following the successful implementation of the technology, the farmers in the village were greatly impressed and motivated by the performance of the new mustard variety (DRMR 1165-40) and the improved cultivation practices, which resulted in significant net profits. Shri Vijendra Singh has become a role model not only in his own village but also for the broader farming community in neighboring areas. His success has inspired farmers from other villages, who are now showing strong interest in oilseed production programs using proven high-yield varieties. These advancements have the potential to significantly enhance oilseed production in Firozabad district, benefiting farmers on a large scale. Additionally, there is a growing demand among farmers for dwarf and wilt-resistant mustard varieties.
