Proper arrangements for purchase of millet, jowar and paddy on support price must: CM Chouhan

28 November 2020, Bhopal, IN: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that proper arrangements must be maintained for procurement of millet, jowar and paddy on support price. Under no circumstances should farmers face any problem. Collectors should give report of procurement every day and ensure procurement arrangements through regular visits. Chief Secretary Shri Iqbal Singh Bains and concerned officials were present in the meeting.

Chief Minister Chouhan sought information about the arrangement of millet procurement in Morena district. He said that availability of gunny bags should be ensured at the millet purchase centres immediately as per requirement. Every grain of millet of the farmers should be purchased at support price. Arrangement for purchase, transport, gunny bags and payment to farmers should be maintained in every situation. Millet laden trucks coming from other states and millet should be sized and strict action should be taken. Officers should assess all arrangements of millet influx in future in procurement centres and ensure all arrangements in advance.

He mentioned that there has been abundant production of paddy. Considering the production, arrangements for transportation, timely payment and gunny bags in paddy procurement should be ensured. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan instructed to increase the transport of procured paddy and deposit payment of the crop in the account of the farmer within three days. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the number of paddy procurement centres may be increased as per requirement.

It was informed in the meeting that 97 thousand metric tonnes of millet has been procured on support price. The availability of 900-900 packs each of gunny bags will be ensured in millet procurement centres on November 29 and 30 and 500-500 packs each of gunny bags on December 1 and 2. Currently, millet remains to be procured from 9 thousand 638 farmers. About 38 thousand 400 farmers had registered to sell millet on support price.
