PAU Signs 12th Pact For Bottled Sugarcane Juice Technology

14 January 2021, Punjab, IN: The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) inked a pact with M/s Cocoland International LLP, Jamnagar, Gujarat, for the commercialization of sugarcane juice bottling technology.

Dr NS Bains, Director of Research, PAU, and Mr Tasim Pasta signed the Memorandum of Agreement, according to which the University has offered non-exclusive rights to the above mentioned company for the bottling of sugarcane juice by PAU within India. The agreement was signed in the presence of Dr AS Dhatt, Additional Director of Research (Horticulture and Food Science) and Associate Director, Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, PAU.

Dr Bains congratulated Dr (Mrs) Poonam Aggarwal Sachdev, Principal Scientist and Head, Department of Food Science and Technology and other scientists, for developing the technology of shelf stable, preservative free, ready to serve bottled sugarcane juice.

Dr Gursahib Singh, Additional Director of Research (Farm Mechanization and Bioenergy), congratulated the proprietors for sharing responsibility of disseminating the technologies developed by PAU.

Dr Dhatt informed that PAU has signed 241 MoAs and commercialized 59 technologies.

Giving details about the technology, Dr Sachdev revealed that the sugarcane juice is thermally processed to kill microorganisms and increase shelf life, thereby, offering a completely healthy and hygienic product in comparison to the roadside vendors. The technology was demonstrated to the entrepreneurs by Er Karanvir Singh Gill at Food Industry Business Incubation Centre, Department of Food Science and Technology, PAU.

Dr Usha Nara, Plant Breeder, TMIPRC, said that PAU has signed 12 MoAs for sugarcane juice bottling technology with various companies across the nation.
