PAU Organises Field Day on Wheat Variety

26 March 2021, Punjab, IN: The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized a field day on “New Wheat Variety” in the villages Attiana, Lasara Lakhowas and Siad, blocks Sudhar, Doraha and Pakhowal under the guidance of Dr JS Mahal, Director of Extension Education, PAU and Dr Kuldip Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education.

Dr Kuldeep Singh discussed the importance of cultivation of recommended varieties of different crops. He advised the farmers to purchase quality seed from PAU.

Dr Kamalpreet Kaur, Extension Scientist, welcomed all the participants and motivated them to follow PAU recommended package of practices for different crops. She further shared information about farm literature published by PAU.

Dr Lavleesh Garg, Extension Scientist, informed about various training programmes organized by PAU. The scientists of the department highlighted different activities of the department and suggested adopting recommended varieties of paddy in the coming season.

Dr Jaswinder Singh Brar from Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare advised the farmers to adopt subsidiary occupations like beekeeping, mushroom cultivation, etc. He also explained water saving technologies, and the need for farmer-scientist linkages for profitable agriculture.

Dr Ravinder Kumar from Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, shed light on different schemes being provided by the department for the welfare of the farmers.

Dr Gurjit Kaur, Agricultural Development Officer, urged the farmers to observe economic threshold level of insect-pests in wheat crop before application of insecticides and follow PAU recommendations in spirit. She further stressed upon the farmers to adopt short duration varieties of paddy for efficient straw management.

Dr Gurbir Singh informed about extension activities of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Punjab.

Later on, participants were shown demonstrations on new wheat variety recommended by PAU. Queries of farmers were also addressed by the experts.

Mr Gurmeet Singh, Sarpanch of the village, proposed a vote of thanks.
