Pau Experts Explain Soil And Water Testing And Value Addition During Live Porgramme

02 December 2020, Punjab, IN: The live programme of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU0 was held today, where experts explained soil and water testing, agro-processing and value addition, diagnoses of samples of plants and weather forecast.

Dr OP Choudhary, Head, Department of Soil Science, advised the farmers to go for soil and water testing. “Farmers bring samples of soil and water to PAU for testing, after which the testing report is uploaded on University website www.pau.edu,” he added. Farmers repose full faith in PAU laboratories as soil and water testing helps in fertilizer use as well as knowing the quality of water, he observed. Services for soil and water testing are also available at Region Research Stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras in different districts of Punjab, he informed.

Dr Mahesh Kumar, Head, Department of Processing and Food Engineering, said the department conducts need-based research on agro-processing, post-harvest management and value addition; imparts training in processing and value addition to students, farmers and entrepreneurs; provides technical support for establishing agro-processing units, which comprise 5-6 machines for masala grinding, haldi making, etc.

Dr Inderpreet Kaur, Entomologist, while explaining the services available at PAU’s Plant Clinic, said it advises the farmers and diagnoses the samples suffering from various problems like insect-pests, diseases, nutritional deficiencies and other disorders. Informing about the weather forecast in the coming days, Dr KK Gill, Assistant Agrometeorologist, said the weather would remain clear till December 4.
