05 October 2021, Punjab: In district Hoshiarpur, sesame (Til) crop is cultivated on an approximate area of 300 ha, mainly in kandi region. Its cultivation is suitable in this area due to low water requirement and minimal crop management practices as compared to other crops. Keeping in view the importance of Til crop in this area and for further promotion of its cultivation in the area, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur organized a field day in operational village Bachhohi on 4-10-2021.
Various technical lectures were delivered for the benefit of the farmers. Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur discussed about the purpose of the cluster frontline demonstrations on Til crop and gave a detailed account of the recommended Til cultivation practices, improved varieties, weed control and pest management. He also shared important hints on cultivation practices for rabi crops-wheat, gobhi sarson, gram and lentil. Dr. Bons also appealed to the farmers to shun the practice of burning of paddy residue. He also sensitized the farmers about the different strategies for paddy straw management.
Dr. Sukhwinder Singh Aulakh, Assistant Professor (Vegetable Science), guided the farmers and farmwomen regarding cultivation practices for peas and potatoes, button mushroom cultivation and integrated nutrition gardening.
Dr. Kanwarpal Singh Dhillon, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), shed light on the management of dairy animals in the coming season. He also impressed upon the farmers/farmwomen regarding usage of mineral mixture and uromin lick for the milch animals.
The farmers and the experts had a fruitful discussion on various doubts regarding Til cultivation and other queries.
Seed of gobhi sasron and onion, pulse & oilseed kits, winter vegetable seed kits, mineral mixture, uromin lick, bypass fat, potato and pea cultures and farm literature were made available for the benefit of the farmers on this occasion.
