Haryana farmers advised not to use excess pesticide on cotton
08 August 2020, Chandigarh: Haryana farmers have been advised not to use excess pesticide on cotton crop without identifying the pests. The advisory was given Prof. Samar Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU), Hisar.

While advising the farmers not to indiscriminately use pesticides on cotton, he said that it is expected that there will be a good yield of cotton crop this year as the crop is still in good condition. Therefore, farmers have been making every possible effort to produce a good cotton yield. Farmers have been spraying excess of pesticide on cotton without consulting the pesticide vendors properly, which is harmful.

He said that the areas which have witnessed low rainfall have been facing a major problem of white fly in cotton crops as compared to the areas of heavy rainfall. Apart from this, the effect of green pests (Hera-Tela) is also increasing on cotton crop. He exhorted the farmers to spray pesticides only after taking advice from agricultural experts. He said that the farmers spray pesticides on crops without recommendation, which causes financial loss to them, as well as environmental pollution.
Prof. Samar Singh said that amid Covid-19, it is not possible for agricultural experts to visit the fields with the farmers, due to which they have been telephonically contacting the farmers and timely advising them about their crops.
