Haryana Agricultural University identified a new disease In Millets caused due to ‘Klebsiella Aerogenes’

15 October 2021, Chandigarh: Scientists of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCS HAU), Hisar have identified a new disease in millet crop which is caused due to ‘Klebsiella Aerogenes’ bacterium at the international level. Such disease of millet has been discovered for the first time on the global platform.

Scientists have started working for the containment of this disease and soon they will make efforts towards its prevention at the genetic level. Scientists of the University are optimistic in exploring new direction towards resolving this issue.

International organization also accepted the presence of this disease, HAU scientists are the first researchers to discover it

American Phytopathological Society (APS) based at USA, which declares the new diseases in plants has recognised the aforesaid new disease and published it in their prestigious journal ‘Plant Diseases’ and the report of this new disease discovered by scientists has been accepted as the first research report in the said journal. The American Phytopathological Society is one of the oldest international scientific organizations for the study of plant diseases which publishes world-class publications specifically on plant diseases. University scientists have presented a research report on stem rot disease in millet, which has been accepted by the international institution for publication in its journal.

For the first time in Kharif-2018, scientists took prompt action when a new type of disease appeared in millet crop. Scientists have identified this disease after three years of diligent efforts. At present, this disease has been found in up to 70 percent millet crop in the state, mainly in the fields of Hisar, Bhiwani and Rewari.
