Field Day On Direct Seeded Rice conducted
14 August 2021, Punjab: The Department of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana in collaboration with State Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare organized a field day on “Direct Seeded Rice” on Aug 12, 2021 at village Rauwal under the guidance of Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head Deptt of Ext. Edu who has been continuously working to strengthen linkages with farmers and line departments through such extension activities.
About 70 farmers from Rauwal, Bhundri, Gorsian Makhan and other villages of Siddhwan Bet block attended this field day. Dr Kuldeep Singh also inaugurated the Farmer Information Centre (FIC) at village Rauwal on this occasion. He appealed the farmers to cultivate PAU recommended short duration rice varieties so as to conserve water and also for easy management of straw after harvesting. Dr Jagroop Kaur, Senior Agronomist discussed the cultivation practices in DSR and shared the important consideration while using this technique.

Dr Yuvraj Singh Pandha, Entomologist enlightened the farmers regarding the insect-pest and disease management in DSR. Dr Sherajit Singh Mand, Agriculture Extension Officer, Siddhwan Bet shared the experiences of the farmers with respect to demonstrations laid on Direct Seeded Rice by the Department of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana in collaboration with State Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
The farmers also shared their experiences pertaining to DSR technique. Dr Manmeet Kaur shared that through demonstrations on new technologies farmers can be made aware of the opportunities they can avail by linking with the university. She encouraged the farmers to involve their women and children into farming and allied enterprises to enhance their household income. Dr Lopamudra Mohapatra shared the activities undertaken by the Department of Extension Education for farmers and their households. The farmers were also taken to the demonstration sites to show them the glimpses of DSR fields so that they get motivated for this technique in future.
