09 August 2021, Punjab: Field day on “Plantation and management of fruit plants” was organised by Farm advisory service centre, Gangian, Hoshiarpur at village Bairampur(Hoshiarpur) on 06-8-2021. The aim of field day was to make farmers aware regarding successful cultivation of fruit plants. On this occasion Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, DES (Entomology) extended a warm welcome to the participating and discussed about fruitfly as an important insect pest infesting kinnow crop.
He gave a detailed account of the life cycle of fruitfly, its damage, diagnosis and advocated eco-friendly management of this pest through the use of PAU fruitfly traps.He also laid stress on clean cultivation practices in the orchards. Dr Indira Devi, DES (Horticulture) guided the farmers about the planting season of various fruit plantsand nutritive value of various fruits. She advised the farmers to adopt kitchen and nutritional garden for nutritional security. She also guided the farmers regarding various farm operations in horticulture crops during rainy season and discussed about soil and fertilizer management for the plants.Dr Charanjeet Kaur, DES (Agronomy) guided the farmers to adopt the recommended weed management practices for the control of weeds which are the major constraints in the cultivation of direct seeded rice.
On this occasion Dr Shammi kumar (CEO), Citrus Estate, Bhunga shared the various development schemes of the citrus estate.Dr Sumanjit Kaur, Incharge, M S Randhawa Fruit Research Station, Gangian, informed the farmers regarding various fruit plants available for sale at Fruit Research Station. In the end, the queries and doubts raised by the participants regarding fertilizer, insect pest and disease incidence were well answered by the team. About 50 fruitfly traps were distributed among farmers as demonstrations for successful management of fruitfly in kinnow.Team also visited the kinnow orchards in this village.
