Crop insurance in five districts of Madhya Pradesh till 7th September
02 September 2020, Bhopal, IN: Central Government has accepted the request for extending the premium depositing period of the crop insurance scheme till September 7, informed Madhya Pradesh CM, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chauhan. This will be done in five flood-affected districts of the state including Raisen, Sehore, Hoshangabad, Dewas and Harda.

The remaining farmers of these districts will also now be able to take advantage of the Prime Minister’s crop insurance scheme. Chief Minister, Mr. Chouhan has thanked the Union Agriculture Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, for taking the decision of extending the date of insurance scheme in the interest of farmers, in view of the excess rainfall and floods in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, the last date of crop insurance scheme was August 31, 2020.
Chief Minister, Mr. Chouhan informed that the farmers hailing from the districts where all activities had stopped due to excess rainfall in the state, were deprived of being included in the Prime Minister’s crop insurance scheme. In this context, he himself had requested the Union Agriculture Minister vide a letter to extend the time limit of the insurance scheme to September 7.

By taking a prompt decision on this, the central government has given relief to the farmers of five districts of the state. Chief Minister, Mr. Chouhan has also appealed to the farmers to take advantage of this facility given by the central government. It may be noted that last year, about 23 lakh farmers had joined the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme in Madhya Pradesh. This year, about 32 lakh farmers have insured their crop by depositing the premium of the insurance scheme.
