Consensus reached between Haryana government and farmer organizations

13 September 2021, Chandigarh: Haryana Government and Farmers’ organizations have reached a consensus amid pleasant atmosphere regarding the agitation going on in Karnal for the last five days. Besides this, the lathi charge case will be investigated by a retired judge of the High Court. During this time, SDM, Sh. Ayush Sinha will remain on leave. Under the agreement, two members of the family of the deceased farmer will be given a job at DC rate on a sanctioned post.

The agreement was announced to the mediapersons in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary, Sh. Devender Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, Superintendent of Police, Sh. Gangaram Punia, Gurnam Singh Chaduni and other leaders on behalf of farmers’ organizations.

On behalf of the administration, Additional Chief Secretary, Sh. Devender Singh said that the Administration has been holding talks with the agitators in amiable atmosphere continuously for the last 4 days, as a result of which a mutual agreement has been reached between the two sides today.  He also made it clear that farmers are like family and this agreement has been met in a very respectful manner.

Additional Chief Secretary, Sh. Devender Singh said that there was a demand of the farmers’ organizations that on August 28, police lathi charge at Bastara toll should be investigated and the family of deceased farmer,  Sushil Kajal should be given proper compensation. On these demands, 4 rounds of talks were held between the Administration and the farmer leaders late in the evening, in which an agreement was reached between the Administration and the farmers. He said that it has been agreed to conduct a detailed inquiry into the lathi charge case by a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This investigation will be completed in a month and during this time SDM, Sh. Ayush Sinha will remain on leave.  Along with this, two members of the family of the deceased farmer will be given a job within a week at DC rate on a sanctioned post.

Reacting to the decision, farmer leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni said that there were several rounds of talks with the administrative officers and the government subsequently accepted the demand of the farmers. He said that the demand for inquiry into the lathi charge case and giving jobs to the kin of the deceased farmer has been accepted. All the organizations were involved in the discussions held in this regard and everyone agreed to end the ongoing dharna in front of the Mini Secretariat, which was welcomed by all those sitting on the dharna.
