227 farmers and farm women attend PAU kisan club meet

05 August 2021, Punjab: The monthly training camp for the members of PAU Kisan Club was organised at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today. A total of 182 farmers and 45 farm women participated in the camp which was held under the guidance of Dr JS Mahal, Director of Extension Education.

Dr TS Riar, Additional Director Communication and Programme Associate Director, welcomed the farmers and urged them to remain connected with PAU during pandemic through WhatsApp groups, e-mails and other information and communication technology tools.

During the camp, Dr Mandeep Singh, Principal Plant Bacteriologist, and Dr KS Suri, Senior Entomologist explained the disease and pest management in Kharif crops, respectively. They dwelt upon the management of sheath blight, false smut, rice stem borers, leaf folder and planthoppers in paddy; stalk rot and fall army worm in maize; fungal foliar leaf spot, parawilt, whitefly and bollworm in cotton, etc.

Dr Amit Sharma, an expert from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, apprised the farmers of the formulation of cattle feed.

Mr Ravinder Bhalooria, Programme Coordinator, proposed a vote of thanks.

During the training camp for women’s wing of the club, Dr Kiran Grover, Principal Extension Scientist (Food and Nutrition), spoke on nutritive and medicinal value of seasonal fruits.

Dr Rupinder Kaur, Coordinator of women’s wing of the club, discussed the activities of Skill Development Centre, PAU.

Mrs Anita Goyal, a member of PAU Kisan Club, demonstrated the preparation of red Indian drink from apple and tomato, guava mojito and bael squash.
