State Level Workshop on Post Flood Management in Agri-allied sectors of Assam

10 September 2024, Assam: ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone VI, Guwahati organized a state level workshop on post flood management in Agri-allied sectors of Assam in collaboration with Extension Education Institute, Khanapara and College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara with the aim to prioritize research and policy issues and give recommendation on tackling the post flood situation here today.

The workshop was organized into four sub-themes: Agriculture, Horticulture, Livestock, and Fishery sectors. During the event, officials from KVKs and Line Departments presented the challenges farmers faced in these sectors due to flooding. This was followed by an in-depth discussion on the extent of flood damage, including the affected areas, productivity losses, monetary impacts, and the increased vulnerability of crops and livestock to pests and diseases after the floodwaters receded. The discussion also covered the effects on post-harvest activities and marketing. Subsequently, strategies to mitigate the flood’s impact across these sectors were explored.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary, Agriculture, Govt. of Assam; Directors from the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat; Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara; Director, Extension Education Institute, Khanapara; Experts from the nearby ICAR institutes; Officials from the Line Departments, Govt. of Assam; Senior Scientist & Heads of KVKs of Assam; Scientist of ICAR-ATARI, Zone VI, Guwahati etc.
