Samyukta Kisan Morcha rejects agriculture committee formed by government
21 July 2022, New Delhi: Samyukta Kisan Morcha has decided not to nominate any representative and has rejected the committee formed by the Government of India on MSP and other related issues.
When the committee was announced on 19 November 2021 with the Prime Minister announcing the repeal of the three farm laws, the Morcha had made its doubts public regarding the committee. In the month of March 2022, when the government had asked the Morcha for names of representatives for this committee, the Morcha had sought clarification from the government about the committee to which it never got a reply.
Samyukta Kisan Morcha conducted its national meeting on 3rd July 2022 and decided that “unless the government clarifies the jurisdiction and terms of reference of this committee, there is no justification to nominate a representative of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha to this committee.” The leaders of the farmer body said that by announcing this committee before the Parliament session, the government has tried to complete the paperwork.
The industry body mentioned, the chairman of the committee is former Agriculture Secretary Mr. Sanjay Agarwal, who made all three anti-farmer laws. He is accompanied by Mr. Ramesh Chand, a member of NITI Aayog, who was the main advocate of these three laws. As experts, it is the economists who have been against giving legal status to MSP.
A place has been left for three representatives of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha in the committee. But in the name of farmer leaders, the government has squeezed its loyalists, all of whom openly advocated the three anti-farmer laws. All these people are either directly associated with BJP-RSS or support their policy, mentioned a representative of the farmer body.
