Rajasthan Hikes Mustard MSP Limit to 40 Quintals
06 April 2025, Sri Ganganagar: The Rajasthan government has announced two major decisions for farmers. The procurement limit for mustard at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) has been raised from 25 quintals to 40 quintals. Additionally, the deadline for constructing farm water storage structures, known as diggis, has been extended from March 31 to June 30, 2025.
These decisions are expected to bring relief to farmers, although the full impact will unfold over time.
Increase in Mustard Procurement Limit
Previously, farmers were allowed to sell only up to 25 quintals of mustard at MSP. This limit has now been increased to 40 quintals. The MSP for mustard has been set at ₹5,950 per quintal. The last date for procurement is April 10, 2025, and farmer registration began on April 1.
The decision was made by the Union Ministry of Agriculture following persistent demands from farmer organizations. Until now, those producing more than 25 quintals had to sell the excess in the open market, often at lower prices. With the revised limit, farmers can now sell more of their produce at the guaranteed MSP.
Extended Deadline for Diggi Construction
The deadline for constructing diggis—small ponds or reservoirs used for storing water for irrigation—has been extended to June 30, 2025, from the earlier cut-off of March 31. This extension will make it easier for farmers to store water for crop irrigation, especially in areas where canal water supply is irregular.
Farmers have welcomed the move, saying the extra time will allow them to complete construction without rushing.
Overall, the increase in the mustard procurement limit may help farmers earn better prices for their produce, while the extended timeline for diggi construction comes as a welcome relief for those facing water scarcity.
