Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin: 37.15 Lakh Houses Built for Farmers in Madhya Pradesh

22 March 2025, New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh has made significant strides in providing homes to its rural population under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). Since the scheme’s inception in 2016, the state has successfully completed the construction of 37,15,287 houses, ensuring a stable shelter for countless farmers and their families.

The central government, under PMAY-G, has aimed to provide ‘Housing for All’ by constructing 2.95 crore houses nationwide. With the recent approval to extend the scheme for the fiscal years 2024-25 to 2028-29, an additional 2 crore rural houses are expected to be built. For Madhya Pradesh, the allocated target was 49,89,236 houses, of which 37,15,287 have been completed, showing substantial progress.

A minimum of 60% of the allocated houses are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), ensuring inclusive growth. Additionally, efforts are made to accommodate persons with disabilities, aiming for at least 5% of beneficiaries from this category.

PMAY-G is closely monitored through geo-tagged, time-stamped photographs at each stage of construction. National-level monitors, area officers, and a dedicated Project Management Unit (PMU) ensure transparency and timely completion. Payments to beneficiaries are directly transferred to their bank accounts via the AwaasSoft-PFMS platform.

Reports highlight a reduction in the average time for house completion from 314 days to 114 days in recent years. The program has improved living standards, reduced open defecation, increased LPG usage, and generated employment opportunities for construction workers and material suppliers.

Madhya Pradesh farmers have seen positive changes in their quality of life, enhanced productivity, and a safer living environment due to PMAY-G. The initiative continues to bring hope and stability to the rural communities of the state.
