Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin: 36.18 Lakh Houses Built for Farmers in Uttar Pradesh
22 March 2025, New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a remarkable transformation in rural housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G). As of March 17, 2025, the state has successfully constructed 36,18,753 houses, bringing stability and security to numerous farmer families.
Launched in 2016, PMAY-G aims to construct 2.95 crore rural houses across the nation. With the scheme’s extension for the 2024-25 to 2028-29 period, an additional 2 crore houses will be built, further boosting rural development. Uttar Pradesh received a target of 36,85,704 houses, achieving an impressive completion rate.
The scheme emphasizes inclusivity, with a minimum of 60% of houses reserved for SC and ST beneficiaries. Additionally, states strive to ensure that at least 5% of the beneficiaries are persons with disabilities, promoting equitable growth.
To maintain transparency, every house’s construction progress is tracked through geo-tagged and time-stamped photos. Payments are made electronically to beneficiaries’ bank accounts via the AwaasSoft-PFMS platform. Regular monitoring by national-level officers, PMU, and local authorities ensures quality and accountability.
Studies reveal a reduction in the average time for house completion from 314 to 114 days, reflecting increased efficiency. The scheme has positively impacted the living standards of rural families, reduced open defecation, increased the use of LPG, and generated employment in the construction sector.
Farmers in Uttar Pradesh now experience improved living conditions, better health, and enhanced social status due to PMAY-G. The program’s commitment to rural housing continues to uplift the lives of countless farmers, fostering a brighter future.
