PAU- NIDHI-TBI Supports Agripreneur In Advancing Traditional Rice Processing And Marketing
03 January 2025, New Delhi: The NIDHI-TBI (DST, GoI) team, under the aegis of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), extended comprehensive support to Mr Daljinder Singh, an agripreneur specializing in growing and processing traditional red rice. Registered under the brand name ‘Avval Desi Dhan’ with his firm ‘Nutri Bowl,’ Mr Singh sought technical assistance to enhance production, processing, and market reach.
To address his queries, the NIDHI-TBI team organized a three-hour interactive session with subject matter specialists from the Department of Food Science and Technology (FST). The session provided expert guidance from Dr Savita Sharma, Head of FST; Dr Bobade Hanuman and Dr Jaspreet Kaur, Food Technologists; Mr Gurinder Singh, CEO; and Mr Akashdeep, TA from NIDHI-TBI.
Mr Singh’s red rice, renowned for its rich iron, protein, and folic acid content, holds significant health benefits.
During the session, Dr Savita Sharma highlighted its nutritional value and suggested potential processed products to diversify the range. Dr. Hanuman and Dr. Jaspreet Kaur addressed queries regarding production challenges, product variants, and further testing for quality enhancement. Mr. Gurinder Singh provided insights into networking channels and marketing strategies to enhance market penetration and positioning.
The team connected Mr Singh with the Centre of Excellence (COE) at Hisar Agricultural University to strengthen regional support. This collaboration aims to facilitate further research and development in red rice processing and marketing.
Dr. Ramandeep Singh, PI NIDHI-TBI and Director of the School of Business Studies, commended the session and lauded the team’s efforts in empowering agripreneurs. Dr Poonam Sachdeva, Co-PI NIDHI-TBI and Principal Food Technologist, acknowledged the collaborative contributions of the NIDHI-TBI team and the FST Department in providing hands-on support to agribusiness ventures.
