PAU-KVK Gurdaspur Promotes Climate-resilient Agriculture In Nicra Village Pakhowal
31 January 2025, Punjab: Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Gurdaspur, organized an awareness programme on climate-resilient agricultural practices in the NICRA (National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture) village of Pakhowal. The initiative aimed to equip farmers with adaptive strategies for mitigating the impact of extreme weather conditions while ensuring optimum crop yields.
Dr. Anil Kumar Khokhar, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of climate-resilient technologies demonstrated under the NICRA project. He discussed key weed management strategies for Rabi crops, stressing the need for sustainable practices to enhance farm productivity.
Dr. Rajwinder Kaur, Assistant Professor (Plant Protection), provided valuable insights into Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Integrated Disease Management (IDM) for wheat and gobhi sarson. She addressed farmers’ concerns and elaborated on effective techniques to combat common pests and diseases affecting oilseed crops.
Dr. Ankush Proach, Assistant Professor (Animal Science), highlighted the significance of area-specific mineral mixtures for dairy animals and offered guidance on livestock nutrition and health management to improve productivity and resilience.
As part of the programme, critical inputs such as potassium nitrate were distributed among the farmers to support soil fertility and crop growth.
