PAU-FASC Sangrur Hosts Village-level Camp On Weed, Nutrient, And Pest Management In Wheat

17 January 2024, Punjab: To raise awareness about the latest advancements in weed, nutrient, and pest management in wheat, Punjab Agricultural University’s (PAU) Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC), Sangrur, organized a village-level camp today at Rampura near Bhawanigarh, Sangrur. The event, held under the guidance of the Director of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana, witnessed active participation from local farmers and progressive growers.

Dr Ashok Kumar, District Extension Scientist-cum-Incharge, FASC Sangrur, delivered a detailed session on weed and nutrient management in rabi crops. He educated farmers on identifying symptoms of manganese and zinc deficiencies in wheat and berseem and provided corrective measures. He also elaborated on the proper application of potassium nitrate in wheat. He addressed farmers’ queries regarding soil sampling, suitable weedicides for controlling broadleaf weeds and Gulli Danda, and sulfur application.

Dr Kumar highlighted strategies to combat high temperatures during the grain-filling stage by recommending potassium nitrate spray as a mitigating measure. An exhibition showcasing mineral mixtures, PAU literature, UMMB, and bypass fat was also organized for the farmers. A banner featuring barcodes linked to PAU’s social media platforms was also displayed, enabling farmers to access agricultural updates conveniently.

The event was graced by progressive farmers Yadwinder Singh, Baljinder Singh, and Ranjit Singh, the Sarpanch of Rampura village.
